Hoch über der Westküste Siziliens thront das Städtchen Erice. Schon seit der Antike war Erice durch seine geografische Lage ein begehrter Siedlungsraum. Für Phönizier, Römer, Araber und Normannen war diese Stadt von strategischer Bedeutung. Leider leidet Erice bis heute unter dem schlechten Ruf als Mafiahochburg. Trotzdem ist Erice ein wunderbarer Ort und alleweil einen Besuch wert.

High above the west coast of Sicily sits the town of Erice. Since antiquity, Erice’s geographical location has made it a desirable place to settle. For the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, and Normans, this town held strategic importance. Unfortunately, Erice still suffers from its reputation as a Mafia stronghold. Nevertheless, Erice is a wonderful place and always worth a visit.
