Dieppe liegt am Ärmelkanal gegenüber dem britischem Newhaven. Die von Normannen gegründete Stadt wurde während ihrer Geschichte zweimal zerstört. Der Name der Stadt leitet sich aus dem Wort „deep“ ab, welcher sich auf ihre natürliche Hafeneinfahrt bezieht. Dieppe war ein wichtiger Ausgangspunkt für französiche Expeditionen, war aber auch ein Stützpunkt französischer Korsaren. Ein Spaziergang durch Dieppe zahlt sich auf alle Fälle aus. Vor allem die gotische Kathedrale Saint-Jacques und die Festung von Dieppe sind einen Besuch wert.
Auf meinem Weg, mir die Bisons und Wölfe im „Parc Canadian“ anzusehen (welcher zu meinem Bedauern nicht geöffnet hatte) stolperte ich bei der Rückfahrt zufällig über Gonzeville. Ein kleiner Ort, dessen Zentrum die Kirche Saint-Samson bildet. Die Kirche und sein alter Friedhof sind eigentlich nicht besonders spektakulär. Allerdings wird dieser Ort von mächtigen Bäumen umringt. Man hat das Gefühl, diese Baumriesen würden über diese sakrale Stätte wachen. Église Saint-Samson strahlt eine starke mystische Aura aus, der man sich kaum entziehen kann.
Zurück am Campingplatz von Saint-Pierre-en-Port genoss ich eine kleine Wanderung zum Strand dieses Dorfes. Ein schönes Erlebnis, dass sich hoffentlich aus den gezeigten Fotos erahnen lässt.

Dieppe lies on the English Channel, opposite the British city of Newhaven. Founded by the Normans, the city was destroyed twice during its history. The city’s name derives from the word „deep,“ which refers to its natural harbor entrance. Dieppe was an important starting point for French expeditions, but was also a base for French corsairs. A stroll through Dieppe is definitely worthwhile. The Gothic Saint-Jacques Cathedral and the Dieppe Fortress are especially worth a visit.

On my way back to see the bison and wolves in the „Parc Canadian“ (which, to my regret, wasn’t open), I happened upon Gonzeville. A small town centered on the Church of Saint-Samson. The church and its old cemetery aren’t particularly spectacular. However, this place is surrounded by mighty trees. One has the feeling that these giant trees are watching over this sacred site. Église Saint-Samson exudes a strong mystical aura that’s hard to escape.
Back at the campsite in Saint-Pierre-en-Port, I enjoyed a short hike to the beach in this village. A beautiful experience, which I hope you can sense from the photos shown.
